Farm City Event

Vermilion Advantage and the Agri-Business Council sponsor  Farm City as an annual event held in August and hosted at various farm and ag-related industry sites such as the former Magie Show, Bunge, at the 50th Anniversary Farm Progress Show, Country Delight Farms, Illiana Seed, Doug & Vickie Miller's Farm, & Sleepy Creek Vineyards.

The 2009 Farm City evening event was held at International Greenhouse Co. with presentations by David George, President, International Greenhouse; the Douglas Discovery Garden Committee; and the Panel for Historical Review of Horticulture in Vermilion County.

The 2009 Ag Leader award went to Senator Mike Frerichs; Ag Businesses were Berry's Garden Center, Danville Gardens, & Sully Schultz Nursery; and the Ag Educator Award went to Danville Area Community College.

The purpose of the Farm City event is to emphasize the correlation and economic impact that agriculture has on our area; to familiarize the community with all phases of the industry (urban & rural working together); and to honor on an annual basis the Ag Education, Business and Leader of the year for their continuing efforts and contributions to the agriculture industry in Vermilion County – the urban and rural connection & partnerships.

The 2010 event will be on August 26 at Earl Gaudio & Son Distributors – the Agri-Business Council’s Farm City Night; 5:30 PM.  Program includes: a presentation by Bunge Milling will guide you along the journey from corn kernel to brewer’s grit; then, Gaudio’s is arranging to have a Brewmaster join you to take you along the last leg of the journey to the final product: beer. A tasting will follow the presentation.  We will also present the 2010 awards for Leader, Educator, & Business.  Tickets are $8.50 and available from Ag/Natural Resources Council members, or at the Vermilion County Farm Bureau, and from Vermilion Advantage. Call 442-6201 for information or email lbolton@vermilionadvantage.com.
